Photographs of hand-lettered and ornamented Civil War company rosters for units of the Wisconsin Volunteer infantry, executed by Samuel W. Martin or at his writing academy in Madison, Wis., ca. 1861-1865. Rosters include the 7th Regiment, Company E (Marquette County Sharpshooters) and Company F (Lancaster Union Guards); 12th Regiment, Company E (Wisconsin River Volunteers) and Company G (Evergreens); and 16th Regiment, Company E (Adams County Rifles) and Company F (Northern Lights).
